The ACT/NSW Golf Scholarship Program has been set up to help kids achieve a high standard of golf which only nurturing can do from a young age. Both our sponsors and we have a firm belief that being good at golf or any sport for that matter is only part of the package.
Developing the correct attitude is paramount to this program; I recently had a comment from a parent stating that” you can really see the difference between the kids that are in the program and the ones that aren’t; the ones that play golf have good manners”. When I heard this I knew we’re on the right track.
Our goal is to help the kids receive scholarships here and overseas to not only pursue golf as a career but also take the burden off parents by having the child’s degree paid for by overseas colleges just so they can play college sport for them.
We are currently in the process of buying some land in Braidwood so we can build a world class teaching facility for our young golfers and also have them schooled on the property. The goal is to have no more than 30 kids at any one time to spend the five week days studying and playing golf at a high standard. We will be sourcing out sponsorship for the kids so the cost of this scholarship will be almost completely funded. There will also be a weekend scholarship available.
The school will be for kids from ages 13years and up and ideally 10 kids total in years 7 and 8, 10 kids total in years 9 and 10 and 10 kids total in years 11 and 12. There will be a full time teacher to teach the kids in classes of 10 and when they’re not studying they’ll be out practicing.
With all of our other programs that we currently have running you maybe able to see how the process will work. From before school programs straight through to our PGF Tour Events. This is a very exciting time for your children.
We are currently in the process of training up more instructors to support the demand that we now have. It is also very important that we are all on the same track which is why we’re very fussy with the coaches that we take on. We’re also in the process of buying jackets for the kids who have fulfilled certain requirements within our program. Early 2008 you’ll start to see the kids walking around town with their jackets on and you’ll be impressed by their self esteem and attitude.
The next purchase is to be a bus as the demand for our Tour Events has just out grown my people mover. We like to support the local community and surrounding districts and our Tour Events travel to places like Jindabyne, Goulburn, Braidwood and Bombala and the events are increasing by the day.
So if you know anyone that would be able to help sponsor our bus purchase we will be more than happy to discuss the finer details.
I personally have spent 12 years on tour and have experienced everything form finding my own sponsors, correct diet, fitness and sports psychology and I’m confident of getting your children to even better success than I by avoiding some of the mistakes I made. But more importantly they’ll have fun doing it and develop some long lasting friendships with the other kids.
